Robert Bruce Rosecrance, 91, of Rockford passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015. He was born July 2, 1923, in Rockford; the son of Ralph C. and Winifred (Smith) Rosecrance. On June 19, 1948, he married Beverly Joan Bennett. Bob attended Keith Country Day School and Rockford Public Schools, graduating in the first year of West High School, 1941. He graduated from Stanford University in 1947, after serving as Lieutenant Junior Grade in the U.S. Naval Construction Battalion, the Seabees, during World War II in Hilo, Hawaii and Sasebo, Japan. Bob was among the first to occupy Japan and was fortunate to find friends in that area: John Thayer, John Whitehead, Bill Nelson, and Ray Nihan. A fraternity brother, Milo Sedgewick Gates "Ned" of San Francisco lay in wait on a submarine. Bob worked for Rockford Fibre Container Corporation for 10 years and then he was employed by Atwood Vacuum Machine Company for 29 years, serving as president for 21 years. Bob lived his life in Rockford except for 2 years in Birmingham, Mich., with Atwood. While the family resided there, Bob set the course record of 65 at Orchard Lake Country Club. Bob always loved golf and was the recipient of the Walter G. Leininger trophy of the Junior Open Championship of the Chicago district Golf Association in 1940, 1941, 1942 and was also a member of the Stanford Golf team. He was formerly a member of Rotary, University Club, and Rockford Country Club. Bob was an Executive Board member of the Rockford United Fund. Also a board member of Boys Farm School of Durand (Rosecrance Boys Home), Junior Achievement, Rockford Memorial Hospital, YMCA, and Alpine Bank.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, Cynthia Rosecrance, William (Kathy) Rosecrance, and Laura Rosecrance; grandsons, Brian (Jill) Mugge, Levi Killion, and Daniel Killion; sister, Marjorie Wright; brother-in-law, Jack Bennett.

Predeceased by his parents; and daughter, Judith Gail Rosecrance Killion.

Private burial in New Milford Civil War Cemetery. Memorials to Rosecrance Foundation, 1021 N. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61107. A gathering to celebrate Bob's life to be announced at a later date. Arrangements by Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel.
