The Rev. James Sheckler was the clergyman in charge. Mrs. Arthur DeRaad was organist. Serving as pallbearers were Allen Gilbert, Basil Duffy, Dennis Lee Gilbert, Terence Gilbert, Stephen Moss and Ben Philippson.
Mrs. Henry DeReus, Mrs. L.W.Patterson and Mrs. LeRoy Wilson were in charge of the floral tributes.
Interment was made in the Waveland Cemetery, Prairie City.
Kate Hess Gilbert, daughter of George and Rachel Byers Hess, was born September 4, 1891 at Peoria, Iowa and entered into rest April 10, 1967, at Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines.
She moved to Prairie City at the age of 12 and there she spent the rest of her life.
On October 26, 1908, she was united in marriage to George Raymond Gilbert and to this union were born nine children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, two sons and one daughter.
She is survived by her husband, three sons; Dennis M. of Lime Springs, Iowa, Clarence A. and Marvin R. of Prairie City, Iowa; three daughters, Mrs. Basil (Hilma) Duffy of Mallard, Iowa, Mrs. Kenneth (J. Ruth) Moss of Iowa City, Iowa, Mrs. Ben (Laura) Philippson of Manchester, Iowa, 23 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Mary Eatwell of Ames, Iowa and a brother John Owens of Southgate, California.
She was received into the membership of the Methodist Church of Prairie city, Iowa in 1907. Her very life a gift, or offered loan to all whose need was greater than her own. Her rule the Scriptures out of which she spelled Counsel and comfort on the course she held.
