Bert Anderson Baker, 88, went home to be with Jesus February 16, 2015. Bert was born May 14, 1926 in Van Buren, Missouri. He was number 13 of 14 children, something of which he was very proud, always loving to explain to everyone why 13 was his lucky number!

Bert joined the Armed Forces in 1945, but returned to Van Buren shortly thereafter to care for his mother following his father's death. He married the love of his life Treesa McAfee on August 20, 1949. He and his bride moved to Kansas City in 1954.

Bert was a loyal employee of the Gas Service Company, which later became Missouri Gas Energy. He retired in 1988, after 34 years and only missing 2 days of work. He treasured the many friendships he made during his time at the Gas Company. Bert was also a member of the Temple Gate Masonic Lodge in which he was a Master Mason, 3rd Degree.

Bert was very passionate about two things…his Faith and his Family. He was a dedicated Deacon in the Assembly of God church for more than 40 years, serving at both Raytown Assembly of God, as well as Calvary Assembly of God in Kansas City. He walked daily with his Savior and loved his church.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting pheasant and quail with his three hunting dogs, Buster, Buddy and Casey. He also spent many years on the pitching mound – retiring from the Calvary softball team at the young age of 70. But one of his favorite places to be was fishing on Beaver Lake, where he somehow always managed to catch the biggest fish in the boat.

Bert never met a stranger and would talk with anyone. He loved to tell jokes and served as Bench Coach for the Kansas City Royals (well, he thought he was anyway!)

Bert was preceded in death by his parents, George Washington Baker and Mary Cordelia Clark and his 12 older siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Treesa, his son Winfred (Carol) and daughters Linda Hillix (Bill) and Patty Williams (Kevin), as well as his sister, Dorothy Mae and many nieces, nephews and cousins near and far. He is adored by his eight grandchildren and "lucky 13" great-grandchildren.

Bert was loved and admired by all who knew him. His true example of faithfulness and love will live on forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes, on Thursday, February 19th from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral services also at Mount Moriah & Freeman will be held Friday, February 20th at 11am. The family requests memorial donations be made to Calvary Assembly of God Church, 9320 Elm, Kansas City, MO 64138.

One of Bert's favorites from the "Good Book": And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28.
