JOHN 'WOODY' ARRUDA, 77, of Edgewood, and a resident of Tockwotton Nursing Home, Providence, passed away peacefully, Saturday, November 4, 2006, in the Miriam Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Newport, he was a son of the late Nathaniel and Marjorie (Arruda) Smith.
John retired as a First Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Painters District Council #11, retiring in 1991 from H.W. Ellis in Warwick. He was an avid train collector and was very active in the Edgewood Boy Scouts and the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets, Fields Point Providence. He was a long-time Providence Bruins season ticket holder.
John is survived by his wife, Dolores (Silva); his daughter, Lori-Ann Arruda, of Cranston; his son, John and Irene Arruda, Jr.; granddaughter, Kaylee 'Louise', all of Pawtucket.
