Howard Conner, 84, a resident of the Hebron community in Amite County, died January 16, 2010 at Liberty Community Living Center. He was born September 5, 1925 in DeKalb, MS. He was the son of J.D. and Ola Lang Conner. He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He served on the Mississippi Baptist Association's Associational Executive Committee and traveled on many mission trips with Mississippi and Louisiana Campers on Mission and the Texas Volunteer Builders. He was retired from Western Electric as an installer with over 30 years service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mr. Conner was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of WWII having served as a sharp shooter in the occupation of Japan and served during the reconstruction period of WWII.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Doris Cox of Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Etta Moore Conner of the Hebron community; one daughter, Mary Jane Conner of the Hebron community; one son and daughter-in-law, James 'Jamie' Conner and Catherine of Billings, MT; two grandchildren, Richard Reid and wife, Jennifer of the Hebron community and Lindsay Lea McLean of Texas; two great-grandchildren, Clayton and Collin Reid of the Hebron community; three sisters, Walta Mae Morgan and husband, Wesley and Mary Helen Williams, all of Texas and Jane Leonard of Ocean Springs, MS; two sisters-in-law, Martha Moore and Wilda Butler, both of the Hebron community; numerous nieces and nephews; special caregivers, Margie Bozeman, Catherine Allen and Harriet Carlton and the loving and caring staff of Liberty Community Living Center.

Visitation is Monday at Hebron Baptist Church, 6157 Hebron Road, Smithdale, MS 39664 in Amite County from 5PM until 8PM. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11AM at the church with Rev. Rob Westbrook and Rev. Alton Foster officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Leonard, Bobby Leonard, Daryl Moore, Sammy Kirkland, Mason McNeil and Dwayne Steele. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Johnson, Paul Albritton, Jerry Van Norman and Vernon Haygood.
