He was about 70 years of age.
Mr Gabriel came originally from the town of Fremont. He ran a hotel at Fremont Center before he came to Jeffersonville in the 80's and bought the Mansion House of the Sherwoods.
After running the hotel for several years he sold out in October 1891 to the late John Ludwig, who had sold his hotel at Callicoon Center to the late George H Neumann after running it for many years.
After quitting the hotel here Mr Gabriel worked as boss carpenter on the O & W Railroad for a while and then ran a store at Mileses until he and Mrs Gabriel removed to Milwaukee, where their eldest son, Grover, had located.
He leaves his wife, who was Mary Gebelein of Mileses, and the son, in Milwaukee; also a brother, John, of the town of Fremont.
Another son died in Milwaukee a few years ago and a daughter, Tessie died a the Mansion house here.
