Parents: Ruth was the daughter of Benjamin Hough, born 1772, Loudoun Co, VA, died prob. 1817 in Sciota or Ross Co, OH, or 11 Sep 1819, Chillicothe, OH. Probate continued until 27 Apr 1837. He was well-known in early Ohio history as a politician, surveyor, and land speculator. He was treasurer of the town of Chillicothe, surveyor for the State of Ohio, and state Auditor. He was in the state Senate at least in 1815 and 1816. Benjamin had moved with his parents from Loudoun Co, VA, when they tried to establish themselves as merchants in Washington Co, PA. About 1796, probably in Washington Co, PA, Benjamin md out of Quaker unity to Catherine [Camp?] and was dismissed. He was reinstated 22 Dec 1798. On 23 Mar 1802, his family of wife Catherine and three ch Elizabeth, Rachel, and Amos were given certificate to Concord Monthly Meeting in Ohio. Catherine may have died by 1837. She and Benjamin had 10 children, including Ruth.
