Sons John W Conaway and Harrison Conaway entered the service September 2 1861 for a 3 year term, Both were assigned to Company A 57th Regiment OVI, which mustered in at Camp Vance in Findlay OH.

Pvt. Harrison Conaway died from disease 19 May 1862 at Shiloh, TN, and was buried at Shiloh National Military Park.

Pvt. John W Conaway died 8 August 1862 from wounds received from a falling tree while the regiment was on duty at Memphis, TN. Location of burial currently unknown and being researched.

Stepson Amos Allen Bailey entered the service 20 Aug 1862 to serve in the Union Army for a period of 3 years. He was assigned to Company D 118th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Pvt. Amos Allen Bailey was killed on 14 May 1864 during the battle of Resaca, GA, Place of burial currently unknown and being researched

Son Joseph M Conaway served as a Corporal in Co K, 191st Regiment OVI between February-August of 1865 and returned home.

Appears Joseph was also a Civil War Veteran, and died some time before 1865, based on the following records listing Charlotte Conaway as a Widow: (i) the 1870 US Census for Sugar Creek Twp., Putnam County Ohio; and (ii) the January 1, 1883 List of Civil War Pensioners, receiving $8 per month with initial eligibility in January 1865.
