Born in Virginia, he married Sarah Dalton in 1829 at Highland County, Ohio. Their children included Mary Ann Reed Chase, William Scott Reed, Morgan Reed, Nancy Reed-Simkins, Phebe Reed, and John Isom Reed.
The family settled in Knox County in the 1850's. Sarah died in 1873 in Summit-Douglas and is buried in that cemetery, and it is presumed George is also.
