Agnes Bruzik, age 92, of Osakis passed away August 27, 1997 at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria, Minnesota.
Agnes Mae Zaviska was born March 24, 1905 in Koncovice, Czechoslovakia. As a child Agnes traveled with her family to America setting in central Minnesota. As a young woman Agnes worked for Blake's by the Lakes in Alexandria. She also worked as a clerk for the Montgomery Wards store in St. Paul. On August 29, 1928 Agnes was married to Edward Herman Bruzik at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood. After their marriage Agnes helped her husband farm and enjoyed raising her family. She loved music and attended many old time dances. She also was known to play on a button accordion now and then. She had a green thumb and always had a large garden. She was busy during the winter months sewing or crocheting projects for her family, church or friends. After retiring and moving into Osakis Agnes kept busy around her home, ready to share what she had with others. She was proud of her pear tree and made sure her family got to taste the sweet fruit it produced. She did some early morning cooking and baking for Mary's Cafe as anyone who tasted her delicious caramel rolls can attest. Sometimes during the summer she would enjoy a day out on the lake fishing with her son and grandchildren.
Agnes was a member of the Immaculate Conception parish in Osakis. She belonged to the Christian Mothers Society and Catholic Women's Association. She was a loving, caring mother, grandma and sister who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children: Marvin and Mayureen Bruzik of Alexandria; Dona and Otto Wagner and Karen and Dean Collins, all of Osakis, 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one sister May Schwartz of Alexandria. Preceding her in death is her husband Edward who died in 1995, her great granddaughter, Michell Wagner; two brothers, Joseph and Charles Zaviska and an infant sister, Agnes Zaviska.
A Mass of Resurrection was held for Agnes August 29, 1997 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Osakis with Father Victor Kinzer officiating. Interment was at the Calvary Cemetery in Osakis. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Christian Mothers Society and all attending friends. Active pallbearers were Dean and Mike Collins, Otto Wagner, Mark and Mike Bruzik and Dennis Zaviska. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis.
