Martha Ann Phillips, born in Mason County, Kentucky was the daughter of William B. Phillips (Dec 1790 – Sep 1842) and Mary Chambers Phillips (Dec 1798 – Apr 1885).

In February 1834, Martha Ann married Joseph Sprigg Chambers (1810-1884) who was the eldest son of John Chambers (2nd Governor of the Territory of Iowa and elected three times to the United States House of Representatives from Kentucky).

Joseph and Martha had 6 children:

James Chambers (1836-1899)

Hannah Chambers Goggin, wife of George Goggin (1837-1901)

Mary P Chambers (1839-1923)

William P Chambers (1842-1893)

Margaret Maggie Chambers Forman, wife of Thomas Forman (1844-1907)

Matilda B Chambers (1846-1919)
