Mrs Julia F Cole
The remains of Mrs Julia F. Cole who died in Washington D. C. the 6th inst., arrived here Saturday evening and were interred in Evergreen Cemetery beside the grave of her husband, the late Beverly F. Cole. Mrs Cole will be remembered by the elder village people as Miss Julia Clarke, for with her mother and sister, Miss Hattie, she spent several summers in Salem, guests of their aunt, the late Mrs. David Hawley. After her marriage to Mr. Cole, in Brooklyn in 1882, she came to this village, residing here until 1886, when Mr. Cole became chief of the Mineral division of the U. S. Land Office under President Grover Cleveland, necessitating their removal to Washington, where Mrs. Cole has since resided. Mr. Cole, who was the editor of the village paper here for several years and one of the Democratic leaders of the county, died in Washington in 1889. Funeral services fro Mrs. Cole were held in Washington last Friday afternoon. Rev. Charles Hatheway, rector of St. Paul's church, of which Mrs. Cole was a communicant and her husband a vestryman while residents of Salem, read the committal service at the grave, and several of Mr. Cole's schoolmates acted as bearers."
