William was the son of Daniel B. McKim and Sarah (Groom). He married Lizzie Thompson on Aug. 13, 1891 in MO. To this union one son was born named Verne. After the death of Lizzie in 1899, he married Minnie Simmons on Feb. 11, 1902 in MO. To this union seven children were born; Dean, Maude, Clyde, Katherine, Paul, and two unknown deceased children.

William and three other men went by covered wagon to Oklahoma for the land drawing.
