Sarah Martha THORNBURG was born September 12, 1876, in Iowa and departed this life Monday morning, February 27, 3:17 o'clock, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tobe MANSKE, Shattuck.
She was united in marriage to James E. THORNBURG at Mount Air, Iowa, July 31, 1893. Born to this union were eight children. Three children preceded Mrs. THORNBURG in death. Mr. THORNBURG passed away December 21, 1936.
She was a member of the Baptist Church, having been baptized when she was 14 years of age.
The family homesteaded south of Arnett in 1907. Later they moved to Texas and then back to Ellis County settling north of Gage.
Survivors include five children: Guy THORNBURG, White Dear, Texas, Mrs. Tobe MANSKE, Ted THORNBURG and Mrs. George EAGON, all of Shattuck, and Ellis THORNBURG of Follett, Texas; two sisters, Laura RICHARDSON and Clara SCHOONOVER of Scotts Bluff, and one brother, Irvin McKIN of Scotts Bluff; thirty grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, March 01, from the First Methodist Church, Shattuck, with burial in the Gage Cemetery.
