Mrs. Barbara Jean Patterson, age 74 of Beverly Hills, Florida, died Monday, January 12, 2015 in Inverness, FL. She was born July 25, 1940 in Baltimore, MD, to the late William Hurtt of New Bern and Wilma Gillikin of Bridgeton. She grew up in Atlantic City, NJ, where she graduated in 1958 from Atlantic City High School. She worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company prior to joining the US Army in 1961. There she met William Patterson, whom she married in 1962. She got disharged from the Army and had four children. Following her divorce from William, she moved back to New Jersey, where she worked and raised her children until she moved to Jacksonville, FL. There she remained until her children graduated from school. She then moved to New Bern where she worked at the Ramada Inn. Eventually, she moved back to Jacksonville to help raise her grandchildren. There she also worked as imaging clerk and supervisor at St Vincent's Medical Center from which she retired in 2002. She moved to Beverly Hills, FL for the remainder of her life where she became a member of the Crystal River Women's Club, Citrus County Shrine Club Women's Auxiliary and the American Legion. She is survived by three sons, Corey Patterson of Orange Park, FL, Brian Patterson of Jacksonville, FL and Duane Patterson of Keystone Heights, FL, a daughter, Cheryl Pisechko of Warrington, PA, a sister, Sharon Schiffer of Homosassa, FL, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

She is a direct decendant of John Howland of the Mayflower, William Tisdale of New Bern who created the original Great Seal of North Carolina, and Major Daniel Washington Hurtt of New Bern and of the 2nd North Carolina Infantry, CSA.
