Harbert moved to California with his family in 1937. He seems to have spent the bulk of his career in the construction industry with a specialization in concrete finishing. He married a Connie Grantham sometime before the 1950 Census and they had a child in 1949 but seems to have married again in 1959 to Eleanor Valiza. Research is still underway on Connie and Eleanor. He enlisted in 1942 and served in the 87th Infantry Division. While there, the 87th was deployed to France in 1944 and chased the Nazi's through the end of the war in Europe to include fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. There is a news article from Jun 1945 where he was on leave after a year of fighting in Germany and was being sent to Fort Bragg for more training before being deployed to the Pacific.
President Truman dropped the atomic bombs on Japan ending the war and Harbert returned to Whittier. He died in 1993, probably in La Mirada.
