Johnny Newton Cook, Obituary
[08-Feb-49 to 18-May-52]

Johnny Newton Cook, son of Fuster and Effie Harris Cook, succumbed in a drowning accident, 18 May 1952, near Coachella.

He and his brother were playing along the sides of a small irrigation canal near their home, out of sight from the adults, when the unthinkable occurred. Johnny somehow managed to fall into the canal and was rapidly overcome by the water. Johnny's brother ran for help. Even though an uncle quickly recovered his floating body from the canal and attempted lifesaving aid, Johnny could not be revived; he was 3 years old.

Johnny is a native of Indio, born 08 Feb 49 and is survived by his father, mother and brother F.A. He is held close, in the thoughts and prayers of his uncles: Delmer Cook, Philander Cook; Aunts: Ercie Mathews, Geneva Fariester, Lena Kregness; and his paternal grandmother Cynthia Elizabeth Cook. Johnny will be interred in the Coachella Valley Public Cemetery; all services will be private and for close family only.
