Mrs. Atkinson was a lifetime member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, where she had been baptized by her grandfather, the Reverend Josiah Paul Kinison. Mrs. Atkinson had served as pianist and choir director there for over 40 years. She was chairperson of the music committee, a member of the Quilting Ladies, the Women's Society for Christian Service, and was financial secretary for over 25 years. Outside church ministries, she was also active with her children's school activities, a housewife, and an
avid, talented quilter. Both the church and her family were of utmost importance in her life.
Mrs. Atkinson was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raymond Kinison; and a sister, Margaret (Kinison) Potts.
Mrs. Atkinson was survived by her husband; a son, Michael (and wife Sherry); a daughter, Pamela (Atkinson) Chadbourne (and husband Scott); five grandchildren, Laura, Seth, Terra, Erin, and Katherine; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane.; a sister, Mary Lou (Kinison) Becker; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was on April 5, 2005 at the Hughey Funeral Home, which was entrusted to the care of all arrangements. Funeral Services followed the next morning at Epworth United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon, with the Reverend Robert Hollis officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery of Mount Vernon.
