Kris spent some growing up years in Jamestown and Salida, Colorado. The Ovitz family moved to Eagle Pass, Texas in 1957 where she attended high school, played in the band and served as drum major. She earned her bachelor's degree from Texas Women's University and her master's degree from Our Lady of the Lake University.

Kris will be sorely missed but the memories of her laughter, quirky sense of humor, and a loving, caring heart, will remain with those who called her wife, mom, sister, grandma, aunt, and friend. Her family would like to thank the caregivers of Odyssey Hospice for their compassionate support for those who gathered at Kris's bedside.
