Samuel Jenkins McClellan died peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 11 in Lexington. Sam was born on September 16, 1953, to Henry and Minnie McClellan of Cruger. Sam was a graduate of Central Holmes Academy, Holmes Junior College, and Delta State University.


An accomplished musician and vocalist, Sam performed in the Holmes Junior Chorus and in numerous choirs and vocal groups throughout the south and individually in his spare time from his career in mobile home sales for Fleetwood Homes. In addition to being a 3rd Degree Master Mason, Sam was also an avid bass fisherman and rare coin enthusiast.


Sam was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Henry B. McClellan and Maxine McClellan Salley. Sam is survived by his wife and best friend, Quinn Cunningham McClellan; step-daughters, Riley and Sadie Angell; brother, Jimmy McClellan; sister, Melanie McClellan; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 15, at First United Methodist Church in Lexington with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Buster White, Johnny Granberry, Brandon Cothran, Eddie Upshaw, Phillip Watson, and Marshall Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Trey McClellan, Justin McClellan, David McClellan, Jonathan McClellan, Luke Carnathan, Dick Atkinson and Terry Baker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hammett Youth Fund, PO Box 157, Lexington, MS 39095.


Sam's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the abundance of prayers, kindness, and support that have been given throughout the past months of his battle with cancer.
