She was born July 9, 1919 in Kewanee, daughter of Orlie Glenn and Alcie Pearl (Stegall) Smith. Charlotte married Harold Matchett April 30, 1939. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2010.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son Larry Matchett in 2006, and five brothers Gerald, Donald, John, Dean and Bernard Smith.
Surviving are two daughters Peggy (William) Smith and Christina (Russell) Hughes, ten grandchildren Mark (Jill) Matchett, Matt (Julie) Matchett, Lisa (Rick) Shilhan, Christopher Matchett, Michelle (Bill) Bloom, Jennifer (Scott) Morrow, Michael (Kelly) Smith, Beth (Tom) Bartlett, Andy (Heather) Hughes, Aaron (Anne) Hughes, fifteen great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren and one brother Kenneth Smith.
During World War II, Charlotte worked as Government Inspector at the former Walworth Company, then transferred to Waterloo, Ia, as a bomb inspector at the Chamberland Company until the end of the war. She worked for two years at the United States Employment Office in Kewanee and retired in July of 1984.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
