The venerable Amos Broadwater, olded citizen of Garrett county, died at the residence of his son near New Germany, on Saturday last, having reached the remarkable age of ninety-seven years, four months and six days. The cause of Mr. Broadwater's death is presumed to have been a general breakdown of his system owing to his age. He was the son of Charles and Rebecca Broadwater; was born in Loudon county, Va., and moved with his parents to Allegany county in 1807, and to the place where he died in 1824, at that time a dense wilderness stretching from Fort Cumberland on the East to Fort Duquense, or Pittsburgh, on the West. The most remote ancestor of Amos Broadwater was Cornelius Broadwater, who was born in England, emigrating to this country in 1804. CHarles Broadwater, the son, served in the war with Great Britain in 1812. He was one of the "Old Defenders" of Baltimore, and died in the year 1859, aged 81 years. The funeral of the deceased took place on Monday, the services being held at the New Germany Methodist Episcopal church and were in charge of the pastor. An immense crowd of relatives and friends were in attendance.
