Ephraim Broadwater, for many years one of the prominent and most highly respected citizens of Northampton township, died at the home of his son Charles at North Jackson, O., Sept. 13. His body was brought to the old homestead for burial in the family graveyard. The funeral services conducted by Rev. H. H. Wiant, were held Sept. 15 in the Glencoe Reformed church. Many of his relatives and friends attended the obsequies, among the former being his sons, George W., William H., Charles and L. H; his sons-in-law, James Cole of Youngstown, O., and H. F. Faidley of St. Louis, Mo.; his daughters, Mrs. Emma Troutman, who had been taking care of him at the home of her brother at North Jackson, O., Mrs. Ella Kimmell of Findlay, O. Mrs. Jane Cole and Mrs. Sadie Hartman, Pittsburgh; two granddaughters, Belle Cole and Gertie Hartman, of Pittsburgh, and two grandsons, Thomas and Homer Cole. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Habel of Meyersdale were also present.
Ephraim Broadwater born February 20, 1828, was aged 84 years, 6 months and 23 days. Surviving him are one brother, Ashford Broadwater, of Pennsboro, W. Va. and eleven children - five sons and six daughters - as follows: Chas. Broadwater, North Jackson, O., J. L. Broadwater, Auburn, Wash,.; Wm. H Broadwater, Geo. W. Broadwater, Glencoe, Pa.; L. H. Broadwater, Findlay, Ohio; Mrs. Sarah M. Hartman, Mrs. Rebecca J. Cole, Pittsburg, Pa.; Mrs. Jos Cole, Youngstown, O.; Mrs. H. F. Faidley, St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. J. G. Kimmell, Findley, O.; and Mrs. Emma Troutman. He is also survived by 30 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Broadwater, his wife, died May 23, 1903 aged 75 years, 1 month and 6 days.
Mr. Broadwater was born in Allegany County, Md.; and resided in Northampton township, Somerset County, Pa., about 64 years. After disposing of the home farm to his son, L. H. Broadwater, about one year ago, he visited his daughters in Pittsburg, Pa., and Youngstown, Ohio, and while visiting his son, Charles, at North Jackson, Ohio, he was stricken with his last illness which confined him to his bed for six weeks. He bore his suffering patiently and during his illness expressed his readiness to answer the Devine Master's call. He was a lifelong member of the Reformed Church.
At his bedside when the end came were his daughters, Mrs. Troutman and Mrs. Kimmell and his son, Charles and family. Others of the family had visited him during his last illness.
