Fanny Smyth Blunt was born February 8, 1852 at Oswego, New York, the daughter of Charles Smyth and Catherine Colt Smyth. She was a member of Christ Church Cathedral and the Springfield Women’s Club. She served as chair of the house committee for the women’s club and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Springfield Home for Aged Women. She did on Wednesday morning, March 30, 1932 at her home, 83 Ridgewood Terrace. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanhope E. Blunt. They met at Oswego when his father was engineer officer in charge of the fort. They married two years after his graduation from West Point. They then went to Fort Fred Steele in Wyoming, a rough frontier fort. There were two tours of duty at the Springfield Armory from 1880 to 1894 and 1907 to 1912. After his retirement they built the home on Ridgewood Terrace. Survivors included three daughters: Katherine Blunt, president of Connecticut College for Women at New London; Mrs. Evelyn Blunt Ficke of Davenport, Iowa and Mrs. Lewis M. Tifft of Springfield and two grandchildren: Evelyn Blunt Tifft and Stanhope Blunt Ficke, who was a freshman at Harvard. Private funeral services were held at the residence with Dean Percy T. Edrop officiating. The family requested no flowers. Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery.
