July 5,1919-Feb 11,2016

Mary G. Norman Beahm, 96, of Minden died Feb. 11, 2016, at Kearney County Health Services in Minden. Services will be at the Minden United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Minden Cemetery. She had been a long-time resident at Hinter Long Living in Minden. Mary was born on July 5, 1919, on the family farm near Ragan to John and Iva May (Howell) Norman. She was raised on the farm where she was born along with her sister and five brothers. She graduated from Ragan High School in 1937. She later enrolled in Nebraska State Teachers College at Kearney where she graduated with a one-year teaching degree. She taught kindergarten through 12th grade until she was married to Merle Beahm in Holdrege on March 28, 1942. They were blessed with their first child, Linda, on Aug. 7, 1943, while Merle was serving with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. Upon his return from serving in the war, they made their home in Huntley and then later in Holdrege where they were blessed with two more children, Merlin on Feb. 24, 1947, and Bonnie on March 27, 1948. The couple and their three children moved in 1952 to Minden where they were blessed with a fourth child, Donald, on April 18, 1953. Mary loved the many family gatherings for holidays, dinners, picnics and cousin reunions. She enjoyed attending Sunday services and Circle meetings at the United Methodist Church in Minden where she previously sang in the choir. She liked to read and prepared many wonderful feasts and baked goods for her family and friends. While on the farm as a youth, she liked riding horses and playing baseball with her brothers and neighbor kids. She played piano and enjoyed dancing and socializing with her and Merle’s friends at the Elks, Eagles and American Legion. She and Merle took great pride in their 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and always thrilled to attend their sporting, musical and graduation events. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle R. Beahm; daughter, Linda Hultgren; granddaughter, Laurie Hultgren; brothers, Earl, who died in infancy, Virgil, Jim, Delmar, Willis and Roger Norman; sister, Eva Kramer; and son-in-law Jerry Nelson. Mary was blessed to get to meet and hold each of her sixteen great-grandchildren. Mary will be greatly missed by her loving family and many dear friends.
