Philinda Eddy was born on March 4, 1819 in Genesee County, New York, the daughter of John Eddy, Sr. and Mary Sawyer Eddy.

At about age 16, Philinda married Timothy German Jenner (1817-1861). The two had six children, four of whom lived to adulthood:

Myron M. Jenner (1836-1837)

Nathan B Jenner (1838-1923) m. Hanna Jennett Lowe

Clarissa "Clara" A Jenner (1842-1901) m. Thomas G. Williamson

Timothy L Jenner (1845-1928) m. Jenna "Jennie" Burch

Ella Jenner (1853-1854)

Mary Adelaide (Adelie) Jenner (1855-1937) m. John Wesley Riggle

After Timothy's death, circa 1861, Philinda married Abel Matson (aka Mattison, Mattson) in about 1865. Abel had been married to Mary Jenner, Timothy's sister. Abel and Mary's children, originally Philinda's nieces and nephews, then became her stepchildren:

Sarah Matson (1831-1923) m. 1) Daniel D Rexford (1832-1864); 2) Horace S Palmer (1831-1899)

Gilbert A Matson (1836-1895) m. Emeline L Smith (1839-1880)

Joseph German Matson (1837-1902) m. Sarah Jane (1836-?)

Olive Matson (1840-?)

Esther Matson (1843-?)

Elias A Matson (1846-1924) m. Mary R. Smith (1846-1918)

Philinda appeared on the 1875 New York State census with husband Abel, living in Harmony, but was widowed by 1880. According to the 1880 census, she had moved from Harmony, NY to Fremont, Isabella County, Michigan where she lived with daughter Clarissa Jenner Williamson and family, and worked as a weaver.

By 1885, Philinda had returned to her homeland where she married William Benedict Pier, born in Harmony in 1814. Pier, who had previously married Adah H. Carpenter (1813-1879), had at least 3 sons, now Philinda's stepchildren:

William Anderson Pier (1834-1880) m. Lydia L Ford (1842-1919)

Corporal Edwin Benedict Pier (1836-1862)

Calvin Pier (1842-1862)

Former theology student Edwin and brother Calvin both died in the Civil War, within 5 months of one another.

By the 1900 census, Philinda and William were living in Corry, Erie County, Pennsylvania. At age 86, she died of La Grippe on February 5, 1906, and William died just 8 months later on October 11, 1906. Philinda was interred in Blockville Union Burial Ground in Chautauqua County, NY. Former spouses Jenner and Matson are likely buried there as well.
