Technical Sgt. Aaron B. Mickle, 85, died peacefully at his Choctaw Beach, Fla., home on Jan. 12, 2015. Having served his country for 27 years in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army, Aaron was a military hero with many awards. During the Vietnam War, Aaron's bravery was recognized with the Airman's Medal after completing a rescue mission saving the lives of two downed naval fighter pilots. His military career is noted with time served in the Korean War as well as the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He was born Sept. 29, 1929, to James and Iva Mickle of Yadkinville, N.C. Aaron was honorably discharged from the armed forces March 31, 1971. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and watching western films. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Iva Mickle; four brothers, Olon, Harold, James and Jerry; three sisters, Jeanetta, Geraldine and Marye Lee; and his loving wife, Shirley. Survivors include his four brothers, Dan Mickle of Florida, Eddie Mickle of Texas and Frank and Roger Mickle of North Carolina; and one sister, Polly Duggins of Michigan. Survivors also include his three sons, Aaron M. Mickle of Pensacola, Fla., Stuart G. Mickle and his wife, Renee of Choctaw Beach, Fla., and John F. Mickle and his wife, Deanna, of Florence, Miss., with two grandkids, Lauren and Bailey. He is to be remembered by a host of several close family relatives and many friends. Visitation is to be held Sat., Jan. 17, 2015, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road N.E.
