Frances Rose Spencer, 85, of Grand Island died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.

Frances’s wishes were for her body to be cremated. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, with the Rev. Rod Armon officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Frances was born April 2, 1929, to John and Sarah (Miller) Beyer in Columbus.

Survivors of the immediate family include two sons, Gerald and wife, Andrea, and Larry, all of Grand Island; two daughters, Judy Dennhardt and husband, Lee, of Grand Island and Rosemarie Spencer and husband, Jasung Kim, of Lincoln.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Mallory Rose of Grand Island and Chris and Josh of Omaha; a great-granddaughter, Peyton of Omaha; and numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jon Steven; and an infant grandson, Justin Jon.

She was raised in Palmer and attended high school there, graduating in 1947. After graduation, she and Gerald Spencer were married in Central City. They made their home in Palmer, later moving to Grand Island where she attended Grand Island School of Business.

Over the years, she was employed at The Grand Island Ordnance Plant, The Bureau of Reclamation, and The Grand Island Police Department.

She enjoyed life as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved music, singing and dancing. She was an avid reader and could often be seen walking on the bike trail. Yearly Wiener Dog Races were never missed and she and her daughters were able to travel together on several memorable trips.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed Bible study and volunteered in the nursery and with funeral dinners. She also volunteered at the Salvation Army and for several years at St. Francis Medical Center.

We were very proud to call this classy lady Mom. She will be missed more than she could ever imagine.
