Mr. Ulysses Cooley, 81, a native of Wayne County, MS and resident of Laurel, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. Mr. Cooley was a member and deacon of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church; employed as a Cattle Farmer; served 24 years on the Wayne County School Board; and a mason. He served in the U. S. Army and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Cooley is survived by his wife, Jean Cooley of Laurel; 2 sons, Roy Anderson Cooley (Cindy), Ulysses "Babe" Cooley, Jr. both of Laurel; 2 brothers, Roscoe "Bud" Cooley, Billy Joe Cooley both of Waynesboro; 4 grandchildren, Cena Evans (Marcus) of Waynesboro, Derek Anderson Cooley of Vancouver, WA, Memree Hope Cooley of Waynesboro, Colin Cooley of Vancouver, WA; 4 great grandchildren, Jancie Jean Evans, Rhyla Kate, Laicyn Reed, Kaymree Raye. He was raised with Kim and Karen Pryor by Mr. Ulmer Pryor and Mrs. Katie Lee Pryor. Visitation for Mr. Cooley will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Thursday, January 15, 2015 in the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 16, 2015 from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Wayne County with Dr. Dave Moran and Dr. Scott Hummel officiating. Interment will be in Arrington Cemetery in Waynesboro.
