New Bedford – Rita E. [Evelyn] (Allen) Woodis [(1923-2004)], 81, of E. Freetown died after a long illness November 30, 2004 at "The Oaks" [New Bedford, MA]. She was the wife of Milton G. [Grover] Woodis [(1915-2006)]; they were married [1937?] for 67 years.

Mrs. Woodis was born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth M. (Frost) Allen, and resided in E. Freetown most of her life. She was employed as a clerk by the former Fairhaven Mills, New Bedford until her retirement. She was a member of the Freetown Historical Society and enjoyed sewing, painting, doll making and many other crafts.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters: Barbara E. French of Westboro, MA and Rita B. Santos of Dighton, MA; a son: Dexter M. Woodis of Cowley, WY; a brother: Lloyd F. Allen of New Bedford; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.

She was sister of the late Roger Allen.

Funeral service Friday, December 3, 2004 at 12:00 noon. Interment in Acushnet Cemetery, Acushnet.

NEW BEDFORD -- Milton G. Woodis, 90, of E. Freetown died July 8, 2006 at The Oaks. He was husband of the late Rita E. (Allen) Woodis.

Mr. Woodis was born in Freetown, son of the late Dexter G. and Bertha P. (Cornell) Woodis, and was a lifelong resident of the town. He was employed as a salesman for the former Agway in New Bedford until his retirement in 1968. He was a member of the Freetown Historical Society. He enjoyed reading, gardening and woodworking.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Barbara E. French of Westboro, MA and Rita B. Santos of E. Freetown; a son, Dexter M. Woodis of Cowley, WY; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Rev. Dexter C. Woodis.

Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bristol Elder Services, 182 N. Main St., Fall River, MA 02720.
