PFC US ARMY - WORLD WAR II
WINSLOW - Donald J. Huard, 89, passed away on Jan. 10, 2015, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He was born in Winslow, on March 31, 1925, the son of the late Adelard and Julianna (Albert) Huard. Donald attended local schools in Winslow.

He was employed by H & W Paper Company 'til he was drafted in the Army for combat service in 1943. He was with the 161st Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division on Luzon, Philippine. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with one service Star and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star for bravery.

He spent 35 years in California and returned to Maine in 1990. Don was a Red Sox, Celtic and Patriot Fan.

He was predeceased by his brother, Norman Huard and sisters, Gertrude Bizier, Marcionette Dunton, and Stella Huard. Surviving are his brothers, Roland Huard of Mansfield, Conn., Robert Huard of Winslow, and James Huard of Lake City, Fla. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law, Gertrude (Lacroix) Huard and Carol (Rancourt) Huard; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Many thanks to the people at the Maine Veterans Home for taking good care of Donald.

A Memorial Service, with military honors, and burial will be held in March at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta. Arrangements are with Gallant Funeral Home, Inc., 10 Elm St., Waterville. (www.obituaries.centralmaine.com 1/14/2015)
