"Grandma" Hittle was unselfish in her life, and very much devoted to her family who will miss her sadly since she has gone. Her faith in God inspired her with an undying hope and a consolation always, even when none but God was near. The funeral services, in charge of Rev. Conger of Galesburg assisted by Rev. J. C. Francis of this city, were held at the late home of the deceased on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. The many friends of the family heartily sympathize with them in their sad loss. Sarah's sister Elizabeth married 1849 Simon Cameron and she died 1918 in San Diego, Calif last of the surviving children of Henry & Mary. Their daughter Minnie Cameron was an early DAR member & two of their sons where land barons in Arizona settled there in the 1886. The Camerons had 5 Children, this family had the wonder bug too as they lived in Montour Co, Penn, Northumpberland Co, PA, Lancaster Co, PA, Mitchell Co, KS and Unknown after 1885). They had 3 Children. Our Henry L. Hittle wrote letters to his aunt Rebecca during the civil war. Rebecca's daughter Mary Arabelle stayed in Fulton County, Illinois and married John H. Alder. This family were witness for the second marriage of Elizabeth Cameron Hittle Wagner to Edwin Prentice. You will notice the Alder family on the early 1871 Atlas for Fulton County, IL, the other daughter Elizabeth moved with her father Charles to Wilson County, KS. Rebecca's former husband Charles was a noted attorney in Wilson County, Kansas. *(Guess after all of his legal dealings in Illinois he needed an attorney so became one. LOL).
Sarah was a very amazing woman for her time as she could read and write. It was very unusual in the 1840's for a women to be educated. Just seemed like in her young life Sarah suffered many a sit back as her father died when she was 9, lost in sister. Sarah was the mother of four children Henry L., John F., Mary Anne, and Elizabeth Cameron. I suspect the reason Sarah age 26 and her family left Pennsylvania was to try to get away from the Typhoid outbreak of 1846 and the grief over all the deaths in the family. Sarah and George packed up their
