Professional Football Player. For eight seasons (1967 to 1974), he played at the running back position in the National Football League with the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins. Born Julian Douglas Cunningham, he attended Louisville High School in Mississippi, where he played football, baseball and track. During his collegiate years at the University of Mississippi, while playing at the tailback position under Hall of Fame coach Johnny Vaught, Cunningham earned All-SEC honors twice. Selected by San Francisco during the 6th round of the 1967 NFL Draft, he totaled 84 career regular season games. He is a member of both the the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and the Ole Miss Sports Hall of Fame. He died of complications from dementia.
