Elias Ackal, Sr., 57 year old merchant, died at 4:15 this morning following a brief illness.
Mr. Ackal had made his home in New Iberia for the past 43 years, operating a mercantile business for 35 years. He was a native of Hrishae, Syria.
The Iberia merchant was the son of the late Sliman Ackal and Rose Karan Ackal.
Funeral services will be held from the deceased's Center Street residence. Religious services will be at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Intermet will be in St. Peter's cemetery.
Surviving are his widow, the former Mary Peters; two daughters, Jeanette and Edna Ackal; two sons, Camille and Elias, Jr.; and a brother, George; all of New Iberia. He also leaves a sister, Mary Ackal, of Syria.
The long-time Iberia resident was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1208 for 28 years. The Knights will recite the Rosary at his home.
