Mervin L. Kays, 83, of Wichita Falls passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, January 9, 2015 at the chapel of Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home with Anthony Levell officiating. Interment in the Garden of Inspiration of Crestview Memorial Park with military rites rendered by the U. S. Air Force Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5:30 until 7:30 Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Kays was one of triplet boys born April 5, 1931 in Grant, Nebraska to Chancy W. and Ruth (Softley) Kays. Mr. Kays and his two brothers all joined the U. S. Air Force at the same time in 1950. He retired in 1976 as a Senior Master Sergeant after 26 years of service which included the Korean War era and duty in Viet Nam. Afterward, he obtained an Associate Degree from Vernon College. He went on to work in refueling aircraft on the flight line at Sheppard AFB for 20 years and during that time earned his Bachelor's Degree from Wayland Baptist University. Mervin married Mary Jo Mason on October 4, 1952 in Cheyenne, Wyoming and she preceded him in death in 2001. They both were avid bowlers at Village Bowl and he enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a member of the American Legion Pat Carrigan Post 120 of Wichita Falls.
Those preceding Mr. Kays were his parents; wife Mary Jo and two brothers Fred Kays and Marvin Kays.
Survivors are his children; David L. Kays and wife Nancy of Norman, OK, Dennis Kays and wife Brenda of Locust, NC and Debra Parish and husband, Gregg of Wichita Falls; brothers, Darrel Kays of Puyallup, WA, Melvin Kays of Oregon and Vern Kays of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Brandon Kays, Megan Kays, Danielle Parish, Brooke Parish and Melayna Parish; one great grandchild, Braylin Mitchell.
