Margaret Ellen Umphres married Ransom E. Longfellow on 19 NOV 1861 in Schuyler County, Missouri. Their children were: Sarah Mariah Longfellow, b. 15 AUG 1862 & William Ransom Longfellow, b. 25 SEPT 1864, both born in Davis County, Iowa. Ransom Longfellow joined the 30th Iowa Infantry, Union Army on 13 AUG 1862 , he mustered in on 26 AUG 1862 . On 22 MAY 1863, he was wounded during the battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi; on 10 JUNE 1864 he was considered a deserter after not returning from furlough. Meanwhile, Margaret Ellen had heard her husband was killed in action at Vicksburg, she married David Worley on 9 APR 1865 in Schuyler County, Missouri; their two children were: Arthur Amon Worley b. 5 MAR 1867 in Holton, Brown County, Kansas, d. 16 JUNE 1936 in Emporia, Lyon County, Kansas ; and Catherine Elizabeth Worley, b. abt 1869 in Holton, Brown County, Kansas, d. 12 Nov 1953 in Vancouver, Washington. Several years after the birth of her fourth child, Margaret Ellen is surprised when Ransom Longfellow (her 1st husband) appears in Kansas. He persuades Margaret Ellen to leave David Worley, they leave taking all four children back to Davis County, Iowa to live via train. Somewhere along the train route to Iowa, Ransom Longfellow leaves the train. Margaret Ellen & children continue on to Davis County, Iowa. Margaret Ellen became ill & died soon after she arrived in Davis County, Iowa. David Worley was notified by Margaret's family and he went to Iowa to retrieve, Arthur and Catherine returning them to Kansas. The last known information about Sarah & William Longfellow, is they were with Margaret's sister Mary Ann Rominger in the 1870 census. It is assumed by this author Margaret Ellen Umphres Longfellow Worley was buried in an unmarked grave close to her parents in the Pollard Cemetery .
