Dr. Thomas Franklin Dornblaser and Mrs. Dornblaser had three sons, John, Frank and Paul. Frank, the second son, enlisted in the Sixth Illinois Regiment, Dixon, Illinois, at the beginning of the Spanish-American War. Not being of age, he had to obtain the consent of his parents. He wanted his older brother, John, to go with him. Mrs. Dornblaser, the mother, said one son was enough. John had had a severe attack of inflammatory rheumatism, and she felt he should not go. But Frank prevailed on John to do so and both boys served their country in the Spanish-American War. John returned from the war an invalid, having contracted typhoid. He regained his health seemingly, and graduated in law at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He practiced law in Dixon and was twice elected City Attorney. He came to Chicago and here practiced law until again inflammatory rheumatism claimed him. For six years he suffered patiently and uncomplainingly and died, October 5, 1920. He now lies beside his mother in Montrose Cemetery, this city.
