Jesus A. Lopez passed away peacefully at his Patagonia, Arizona, home on January 5, 2015.
Jesus was born in Patagonia on April 28, 1915, and lived in Harshaw or Patagonia for most of his 99 years.
Jesus was a World War II veteran and served in the United States Army in the Philippines for nearly two years.
After returning home from the Army, he married the love of his life, Cecilia Bustamante, on November 8, 1946, and began raising a family.
In his early years the family lived in Harshaw, Arizona, and he worked at mines in the area. Later he worked on a mining drilling rig throughout Arizona.
Jesus was a devoted husband and father who worked hard to provide for his family. He was a gentle and humble man, and his greatest enjoyments in life were the simple ones - family, friends, fishing, dancing, collecting firewood, working around the house, and more recently – target shooting with his sling shot.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Cecilia; daughters, Mollie, Olga, Olivia, and Cecilia; son, Jose Luis; 11 grandchildren (one deceased); and 12 great-grandchildren.
His strength, kindness, and family devotion over his lifetime were rooted in his faith in God.
A Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. with a funeral Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, in Patagonia. Interment to follow at Patagonia Cemetery.
Arrangements by Adair's Carroon Mortuary.
