Sergeant George Brinkman, DSN 0257, was originally hired as a civilian Switchboard Operator for the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department on 02/28/1941. This position didn't last long as he was reclassified as a Clerk Grade Number 4 and was sent to the Central Division which is now known as the 4Th District. He subsequently was upgraded to a Clerk 3. On 03/16/1943 he resigned his civilian status and entered the military service. He was separated from the military with an honorable discharge and was rehired on 03/11/1946. Mr. Brinkman assumed his position as a Clerk 3 in the Central District. On 10/02/1950 Officer Brinkman received his commission and entered the police academy. Upon graduation from the academy on 12/21/1950 he was sent to the 5Th District for his first uniform assignment. He also served in the Secret Service Division, 6Th, Planning and Development Section. On 11/07/1973 he was promoted to the command rank of Sergeant. On 11/09/1973 he went back to the 5Th District as a line platoon supervisor. On 0814/1974 he was transferred back to the Planning and Development Section and remained there until he retired on 01/08/1983. On 01/09/1983 he was rehired as a civilian in the Watchman's Division as a Security Interviewer. He remained in the Watchman's Division until he passed away on 01/13/1985. During his career he was awarded 2 Chief's Letter's of Commendation for police work above the call of duty on 02/18/1963, and 05/01/1963. Sergeant Brinkman served a total of 43.87 years of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Sergeant Brinkman was also a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II achieving the rank of Corporal.

Sergeant Brinkman is survived by his wife Doris (nee Hawksley) Brinkman. He was the son of the late George Sr., and Clara (nee Ryan) Brinkman.
