Zilpha (Zip) Maxine Shatzer, age 95, of Shell Rock, IA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center.

Zip was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Canton, MO a daughter of Tom & Edna Gruber. Zip had one brother and two sisters; Robert, Margaret, and Jo.

She attended country school in Canton. Zip married Charles V. Shatzer on July 15, 1939. Together they raised four children; Norman, Charlotte, Carroll, and Tommy. They made their home in various towns throughout Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa, working as farm-hands for numerous families over the years. In 1958, they moved back to Missouri where they worked on a farm in Hannibal. In 1973, they returned to Canton where they continued to work part-time. A short time after Charles passed away in 1982, Zip moved to Waverly to be near her family. Throughout her life, Zip enjoyed gardening, tending to her plants, cooking, jigsaw & word puzzles, reading, writing letters to her daughter and sister Jo, dining out, and spending time with her family. She also was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, collected salt and pepper shakers, and loved cows; especially Guernsey's. Zip attended First Baptist Church in Waverly.

Zip will be remembered by her children and their spouses; Norman (Janice) Shatzer of Waverly, IA, Charlotte (Maurice) Annis of Omaha, NE, Carroll Shatzer of Waverly, IA, and former daughter-in-law Virginia Shatzer of Hampton, IA. Nine grandchildren and their spouses; Bill (Jana) Shatzer, Alan (Karla) Shatzer, Janeen (Dave) Noel, Marshall (Trudy) Annis, Maureen (Mike) Reed, Brad (Jill) Annis, Bev (Bryan) Anglin, Lisa Shatzer, and Tammy (Dean) Cronk. She'll also be remembered by her 23 great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, three step great-great grandchildren, her sister Jo Brown of Ewing, MO, and her nieces and nephews. Zip was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, son Tommy, her brother Robert (Geneva) Gruber, her sister Margaret (Bob) Risk and her brother-in-law Bill Brown.

Funeral services will be held Saturday January 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton, MO with Pastor Elsie McNeal officiating. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery, Canton, MO. Visitation will be held Saturday morning January 10th from 10:00 a.m. until time of services in the funeral home.

The family suggest memorials be directed to First Baptist Church in Waverly, IA, Centenary United Methodist Church in Canton, MO; her childhood church, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Pallbearers will be: William Shatzer, Alan Shatzer, Brad Annis, Dave Noel, Dean Cronk and Joey Hardy.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Marshall Annis, Mike Reed and Bryan Anglin.
