Catharine -- A retired Catharine farmer, Jacob J. Schmidt, 91, died Thursday at his home.
He was the oldest active member of the Hays Knights of Columbus, Third Degree.
Surviving are his wife, Clara, of the home; four sons, Aloysius J., of the home, Lucius F., Hays, James P., Kansas City, Mo., Tony, Richardson, Texas; eight daughters, Mrs. James (Hilaria) Corrigan and Mrs. Henry (Agnes) Zimmerman, both of Wichita, Mrs. Charles (Regina) Polifka, Mrs. Don J. (Dolores) Dreiling and Sr. M. Clareann, all of Hays, Mrs. Albert (Roseann) Malsam, WaKenney, Pia Schmidt, of the home, Mrs. Rudolph (Johanna) Walters, Salina; one sister, Sr. M. Stella, Eden, Wis.; 29 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine Church, Catharine, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Brock’s North Hill Chapel from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday and from 1 until 9 p.m. A combined Knights of Columbus and parish wake service will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. The Daughters of Isabella will a rosary at 3:15 Sunday at the Chapel.
