Pyesa was born between 1729-1739. He passed away about 1787. His father was NaNamaKee (Thunder), and grandfather was Mukataquet. Pyesa was the tribal medicine man, not a Chief as seen posted on the internet, of the Sauk people. He had a famous son, Chief Makataimeshekiakiak, also known as Black Hawk, who joined him in a raid against the Cherokees along the Meramec River in Missouri. After Pyesa died from wounds received in this battle, Makataimeshekiakiak inherited the Sauk medicine bundle that had been carried by his father.
