Teddy Ray Bevers, 53, of Canyon died Tuesday, June 2, 2009.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in South Georgia Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Miller, pastor, officiating.

Teddy awoke Tuesday morning in the arms of Jesus with a smile on his face. He was born Sept. 18, 1955, in Amarillo to Roy and Louise Bevers. He graduated from Dumas High School in 1974 and attended Texas Tech.

Teddy was an accomplished builder and inventor. He was the holder of two patents. He owned Bevers Metal Roof Construction and was a member of Palo Duro Creek Golf Club, the Mini Tour and The Church of Christ at the Colonies.

Teddy enjoyed life and loved playing golf until recently. He then enjoyed sitting on the patio overlooking the golf course while watching his friends play. He especially loved holding his granddaughter, Harlie, and was very proud of his three sons. He was an avid reader of the Bible, the "Left Behind" series and any devotional. He loved Christian videos and watching John Hagee and Joel Osteen. Teddy was very involved with the Boy Scouts and helped his son, Anthony, achieve Eagle Scout.

He will be remembered as a creative and sensitive man who loved his family dearly, and who would give even a stranger the shirt off his back on his last dime.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Bevers; and a brother, John W. Bevers.

Survivors include the love of his life and best friend, Jamie Johnson of Amarillo; three sons, John Calvin Bevers, Anthony Glenn Bevers and Beau Gregory Bevers, all of Amarillo; two stepsons, Shane Johnson of Amarillo and Chase Johnson of Glendale, Ariz., whom he loved as his own; his mother, Louise Farris of Amarillo; his stepmother, Sandy Bevers of Hedley; four sisters, Mary Crump of Canyon, Susie Neal of Gila Bend, Ariz., Debbie Crain of Channing and Kathy Malone of Amarillo; two brothers, Lonnie Bevers of Phoenix and Tommy Bevers of Farmington, N.M.; and a granddaughter, Harlie Bevers.
