The Late H. J. Donegan

Remains Arrive and Funeral is Held This Afternoon

The remains of the late H. J. Donegan, whose death occurred at his home in Chicago last Thursday morning very suddenly of congestion of the lungs, arrived in this city over the Illinois Central at 7:55 o’clock Friday evening and were in charge of his brother-in-law, Dr. M. H. Cleary. Mr. Cleary was greatly surprised on hearing of Mr. Donegan’s death as he had always ben a very healthy and robust man. Upon their arrival here the remains were taken directly form the depot to the home of Dr. Cleary on Bouthillier street on the East side from whence the funeral was held at 3 o’clock this afternoon to St. Michael’s Catholic church at 3:30 o’clock. The last sad rites to the memory of the departed gentleman were largely attended, evidencing the high esteem and respect in which he is held in this community where he had often visited while in life. At the conclusion of the solemn church services the remains were escorted to the East Side cemetery where interment was made.

The pall bearers were W. D. Wiseman, Ben McDermott, S. C. Brunner, John Crowley, John Breheny and Tom Gorman.

Mr. Donegan was a typical Galena boy, born and bred. For several years he had been located in the West where, as a result of his recognized ability as an expert accountant and book-keeper, he held some of the most prominent and lucrative positions in the commercial field. After a visit at his home here three years ago, Mr. Donegan went to Chicago where he has since been employed on the books in the Peoples Gas company office of Chicago.

During his extended visit here three years ago, Mr. Donegan became widely acquainted, particularly with the business people, and the news of his death will certainly be a very disagreeable surprise to all. He was a man of great energy and ability and was a recognized master of the clerical profession. Socially he was a favorite, and everyone who knew Henry Donegan have naught but the kindest memories of him. Surviving him are one brother, John, of Home Park, Montana, and three sisters, Mrs. M. H. Cleary and Miss Mary of Galena, and Miss Bridget of Butte, Mont.
