Emil Makidon, 72, of Alexandria, Minnesota died March 1, 1991 at his home. He was born in Baudette, Minnesota November 12, 1918. He attended and graduated from high school in International Falls, Minnesota. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard on May 19, 1942, and was a veteran of WWII, serving three years, nine months.
Emil was united in marriage to Arene Rasmussen on May 3, 1948 in Drayton, North Dakota. They lived in and spent the majority of their married life together in International Falls before moving to Alexandria in 1985. He worked for Boise Cascade Corporation for 38 years as a Quality Control Inspector for the Wood Products Manufacturing Division before his retirement in 1979. He was a very active fisherman and woodworker.
Emil was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, VFW and American Legion in Alexandria at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Makidon and Sophie Fiuchuk and step father George Fiuchuk and two brothers, George and John Makison. Survivors include his wife, Arene; one son Charles and wife Debi of St. Paul; three daughters: Mrs. Richard P. (Sue) Wille of Alexandria; Mrs. David (Diane) Peters of International Falls and Mrs. Terry (Carol) Ohlund of St. Paul; four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was held March 5, 1991 in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Pallbearers were Paul Kurtz, Robin Walls, Todd Walls, Richard Rasmussen, John Braseth and James C. Rasmussen. Entombment was at St. Mary's Mausoleum, Alexandria, Minnesota. Services directed by Petermeier's Alexandria Funeral Home.
