Ruth J. Locklear, of Nampa, died April 19, 2006 at her home of natural causes. She was born May 1, 1920 in Silverton, TX. Ruth was the last surviving child of Mittie Abigail and James Lewis Palmer.
She was preceded in death by parents and nine siblings.
Ruth graduated from Clayton High School, Clayton NM in 1938.
She married Oscar C. Locklear Jan. 4, 1942.
Following World War II they moved to Boise valley in 1944, where they have since then resided.
Ruth is survived by her husband (of 64 years), four daughters, Kitty Johnson; Claudia (& Albert) Abercrombie; Gloria (& Jeffrey) Caulk; and Sherry (& Steve) Dyer; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Her greatest joy was mothering her family and all the neighborhood kids.
She taught children, teens and adults in Sunday School, and led worship and women's groups at various times throughout her lifetime.
Ruth's greatest loves were her Lord and Savior, her family, her home, gardening and sewing. She was best known for her generosity, her warm welcome to her home and her creative abilities from kitchen to sewing room. She will be remembered with affection by the many young people she ministered to. They will never forget the taffy pulls, taco feeds and prayers prayed for them.
Ruth had "eyes in the back of her head" and ears of a German Shepherd. She was hard to fool. She said what she meant, and meant what she said.
Her greatest legacy is children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren following her example of faithful service to her Lord.
A memorial celebration of her life will be April 25, at the Nampa First Assembly of God, with Pastor Barry Osteen officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise.
