Sherman Bridegroom, well known Winamac man seventy-four years of age, died Tuesday morning from a self-inflicted shotgun wound in the head. Despondency over his health was thought to be the cause of his act. Mr. Bridegroom had gone to the home of Henry Winter, north of Winamac, and asked to borrow the Winters brothers gun to do a little hunting in the woods near their house. He had previously done this several times. He told them they had better come out pretty soon, that he would "have something" for them. After they heard the shot, and not seeing Mr. Bridegroom, they went into the woods and found the body. Sheriff James Bruce, Deputy W. H. Wolfe and Acting Coroner Harry Querry were called. Mr. Bridegroom was born Feb. 27, 1879, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bridegroom. He spent all his life in the Winamac vicinity. His wife, Gertrude, preceded him in death. Surviving are nine brothers and sisters, Ira Bridegroom of Winamac, William of Seattle, Wash., Thomas of Detroit, Nelson of Kokomo, Earl and Mrs. Agnes Watson of Wabash, Mrs. Julia Heater of Wolcott, Mrs. Mamie Whitney of Clio, Mich. Final rites are being held this afternoon at the Kennedy funeral home, in charge of the Rev. C. D. Barringer. Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery in Franklin township.
