During WW II Dorothy met the love of her life, Lt. Donald Ray Freeman who was a pilot & named his new B-29 Superfort he was to fly "City of Chattanooga" in her honor. After the WWII the city of Chattanooga bought the Superfort & set it up in a city park as a war memorial. The couple married 17 March 1946 in Chattanooga TN @ Cedar Hill Baptist Church, the Mayor Ed Bass & other city officials feted the bridal couple at a dinner the evening before their wedding. Her husband graduated from Ridgefarm, IL high school before entering the Army as a pilot. They met by chance on a train as he was heading for an new Army base & she was headed back to Chattanooga from a Fl. vacation, letters & a romance followed. They resided in Danville, Il after their marriage, had 3 children, Donald passed away in 1971 & she & the children moved back to Chattanooga, TN.
