ANDREWS -- Earl Weldon Adams, 81, of Andrews died Sunday in a Buncombe County hospital after a long illness.
A native of Cherokee County he was a son of the late Harve and Sarah Martin Adams, a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lillie Mae Roberts of Clinton, Tenn. and Mrs. Loraine Moore of Marble; four sons Ralph and Jack Adams of Marble, William Adams of Murphy and Wade Adams of Washington, D.C.; four sisters, Mrs. Effie Luther and Mrs. Frances Adams of Andrews, Mrs. Laura Young of Asheville and Mrs. Nettie Best of Gaffney, S.C.; three brothers, John, James and Ray Adams of Andrews; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Valley River Baptist Church. The Rev. Fred Lunsford will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Garland Luther, Blaine and Steve Adams, Woody Wooten, James Hall, and Don Best.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Ivie Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before services.
