She was born in Neurenburg, Germany, Dec. 22, 1865. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Germany and was educated in German schools. She was united in marriage to Hans Birkhofer Dec. 18, 1889. They came to America in 1890 and resided in Minneapolis where he served as a brewmaster. In 1901, they came to Alexandria which was Mrs. Birkhofer's home until her passing. Mr. Birkhofer died in 1938.
Mrs. Birkhofer was a charter member of the Zion Lutheran Ladies aid and served as its secretary for 25 years.
Surviving are three daughters, (Freda) Mrs. Sherm Costello of Alexandria; (Antonia) Mrs. G. A. Konkel of Akron, Ohio; (Margaret) Mrs. Walter Bradford of Alexandria; one son, Conrad of Duluth; and seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Her parents, one daughter, Barbara, and one brother, Johan, and her husband have preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Oct. 18 at the Zion Lutheran church, Rev. A. C. Seltz officiating. The pallbearers were G. W. Carlson, Fred Kuehl, Bill Haberer, Walter Roth, Reinhold Roth and Arthur Roth. Interment was made in St. Mary's cemetery.
